Building on the legacy of the company’s award-winning line of digital signal processing (DSP)-based products, Biamp Systems unveiled TesiraLUXTM, which introduces low-latency, 4K networked video distribution to the Tesira platform. The solution transports both audio and video signals over a single network through the reliability of AVB/TSN.

Complete network media platform

“With the addition of TesiraLUX, we have put the ‘V’ in ‘AVB,’ truly extending the power and sophistication of what is possible in a networked AV solution,” said Chris Fitzsimmons, product manager for video products at Biamp. “TesiraLUX delivers dependable performance and automatic handling of lip-sync, resulting in transmissions that are visually lossless and perfectly aligned. It turns Tesira into a complete network media platform that simplifies even the most complex AV applications in corporate, government, hospitality, and education.”

The TesiraLUX product line initially includes an AVB video encoder (TesiraLUX IDH-1) and an AVB video decoder (TesiraLUX OH-1). The encoder features one HDMI® port, one DisplayPortTM port, and includes two mic/line level analogue inputs. The decoder includes one HDMI port and two line level analogue outputs.

Complete system latency

TesiraLUX supports the latest advancements in video formats, including 4096x2160 at 60Hz, high dynamic range (HDR) and the Rec. 2020 colour space. It can accept video at up to 16-bit colour depth with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling. It also supports 8-channels of embedded PCM audio which can be broken out to be routed and processed independently. The system also manages EDID automatically between the TesiraLUX device and the input source/output display thanks to scalers in both the encoder and decoder. By utilising AVB/TSN, TesiraLUX guarantees a total system latency of less than two frames (33ms at 60Hz), including scaling, compression, and network transit. AVB/TSN bandwidth reservation capabilities coupled with TesiraLUX’s bandwidth management tools also sets up customers to create truly converged networks rather than dedicated AV media distribution network infrastructure.

Multiple software-based options

TesiraLUX allows the integrator to make informed decisions about what to send over the network and helps them treat content types appropriately, resulting in visually lossless transmissions that make best use of the available bandwidth. Multiple software-based options are available for managing bandwidth, including setting maximum resolution, the frame rate, and a rate of compression. With both a 1Gb (RJ-45) and a 10Gb (SFP+) media port available, designers have a wide range of transmission options from which to choose.

Within a single software environment, system designers can create audio and video installations to match their exact specifications. Because TesiraLUX’s video partitions behave like Tesira’s audio partitions, designers have a modular and intuitive approach to system design and commissioning, resulting in significant time and cost-savings for integrators. In addition, Tesira coordinates signal distribution so there’s no need to manually add audio delays for lip sync.
